Description
Metglip is a prescription medication that contains two different drugs: teneligliptin and metformin hydrochloride. It is available as extended-release tablets that are taken by mouth.
Metglip is used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Type 2 diabetes is a condition that affects the way your body regulates blood sugar (glucose). It occurs when your body either doesn’t produce enough insulin or when your body’s cells become resistant to the effects of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps your body absorb glucose from your bloodstream and store it in your cells for energy.
Teneligliptin belongs to a class of drugs called dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors. It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones in your body. Incretin hormones are natural substances that are released by your gut after you eat. They help to lower your blood sugar levels by stimulating the release of insulin from your pancreas and by decreasing the amount of sugar your liver makes.
Metformin hydrochloride belongs to a class of drugs called biguanides. It works in several ways to lower your blood sugar levels. It decreases the amount of sugar your liver makes, and it helps your body use insulin more effectively.
Metglip is not a cure for type 2 diabetes. You will need to continue taking it and following your doctor’s instructions about diet and exercise to help control your blood sugar.
