Description
Cefory-plus (Cefoperazone & Sulbactam for injection) is a prescription medication that combines two antibiotics, cefoperazone and sulbactam. It is used to treat a variety of serious bacterial infections, including infections of the lungs (pneumonia), urinary tract, skin, bones and joints, and the abdomen (belly).
- Cefoperazone belongs to a class of drugs called cephalosporins. These antibiotics work by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall, which is essential for the survival of bacteria.
- Sulbactam does not belong to a class of antibiotics. Instead, it helps to prevent certain bacteria from becoming resistant to cefoperazone by inactivating an enzyme that bacteria can produce to break down cefoperazone.
By working together, cefoperazone and sulbactam can effectively kill a broad range of bacteria. However, Cefory-plus will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.
